LOS TREMOLO KINGS

Casa Borrega, New Orleans’ best Mexican restaurant, was also known as a hub of Latin music, culture and cuisine throughout the city. Owner Hugo Montero is a renowned artist in his own right. In the summer of ’19 Hugo approached Phil the Tremolo King and asked him to form a cumbia /chicha band. Phil recruited bassist Rene Coman ( the Iguanas, Alex Chilton, Lynn Drury ) and percussionist Isaac Johnston and on September 28 Los Tremolo Kings played their debut gig at Casa Borrega. They played a successful Friday night residence throughout 2019.  When the Covid lockdown of New Orleans music venues ended, they resumed their Friday residence in April of ’21. After Isaac Johnson moved to St.Louis, renowned New Orleans drummer Doug Garrison ( The Iguanas, Panorama Jazz Band, Los Tropicales, and many more) became the drummer for Los Tremolo Kings. Cuban-American singer and songwriter Margie Perez rounds out the band, bringing her awesome vocal chops and incredible stage presence to the band’s live show!

On June 10th, 2024, we released our first EP, recorded at Casa Borrega.
